Reaching out to our neighbor in need is an important part of the value system for Salem UMC. We try to find ways to help locally, nationally and globally. We do much of our work through the global offices of the United Methodist Church supporting disaster response efforts, health initiatives, missionary support and indigenous mission work worldwide.
Our homegrown efforts are directed by the idea that we work from our current position of strength to assist those in a current position of weakness. To do this we are currently involved with:

Upcoming Mission Projects
Every Wednesday some of our team goes to Reconciliation Ministries to assist serving in areas of need within the Organization. If you are interested in joining this work please contact Tommy Mclendon at mclendta@aol.com.
On Thursday, October 2, the SalemUMC Missions team traveled to Epworth Children’s Home and provided lunch for their staff during their monthly staff Employee of the Week celebration. Several staff members at Epworth were recognized for outstanding work in making a difference in the lives of the children.
Beginning in Mid – November the Missions team will begin the Midlands Orphan Relief stocking drive. Everyone will be able to select a “stocking” from the tree with the age/gender/sizes of a child and can go and shop for clothes and shoes for that child. All stocking purchases will be returned to SalemUMC and then delivered to Midlands Orphan Relief. Look for the stocking tree in the Welcome Center beginning in November.
Rise Against Hunger will return with the promotion and raising of funds on Sunday, Jan 4 through Sunday, Feb 8. We will then host our packaging event on Sunday, March 1 from 3:00 – 6:00p.m. Sign up will be in the Welcome Center beginning in January. Our minimum goal is raising $8400 in order to package 20,000 meals.
